Skyler Joy talks about her role as Gidget on Starz "P-Valley"
Skyler Joy joins host Elias on the podcast. Skyler can be seen starring on STARZ’S drama series, “P-Valley.” Adapted from award-winning playwright, Katori Hall’s, Pussy Valley, the series focuses on a strip club in the Mississippi Delta. Skyler is a stand-out on the show as the quirky and earnest, Gidget one of the dancers at the club who is described as a ‘trailer-park philosopher.’ She is a second-generation pole dancer and views stripping as an Olympic-worthy sport — high art, even.
Born near Chicago, Illinois and raised in Ketchikan, Alaska, Skyler grew up with a burning passion for the arts. With little to no opportunities in town, she gravitated towards theater and starred in local productions with First City Players including Oliver, The Jungle Book, The Nutcracker and Godspell. As her love for storytelling only grew stronger, she graduated high school early and moved to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue her television and film career. Within several weeks she had landed several guest star roles and appearances in short films, before securing the role as a young Juliette Lewis in “Ma.” She has been working steadily ever since.
In addition to her love for cinema and the arts, Skyler is a dedicated student and is actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Growing up, Skyler’s parents housed foster children and she is dedicated to supporting troubled teens in the foster care system.
